ipad que no sale del modo recuperación

Hola a tod@s,
recurro al foro a ver si alguien me puede orientar.
Me han dejado un ipad 1 para intentar arreglarlo. Me dicen que lo estaban usando mientras navegaban y de repente se les colgó y al intentar reiniciar se queda en "conecte al itunes"
Si intentamos restaurarlo desde itunes me da error 1604, que supuestamente se soluciona con ireb-r4
Arranco ireb-r4 y meto el ipad en modo dfu
arranco itunes, shift+restaurar y escojo iPad1,1_4.3.3_8J3_Restore.ipsw, pero me da "error desconocido (28)"

He probado lo que comentas. La pantalla se pone en negro, empieza a extraer el SW y despues se echa un rato diciendo que está preparando la actualización, para al final dar el mensaje de error.
Si mato ipodservice.exe e itunes.exe mientras esta preparando dicha actualización, al arrancar itunes de nuevo no me aparece el ipad.

¿Lo estaré haciendo mal?
